Blog: South Boston Youth Ambassadors – Dare to Dream Music Video

I work with these young people every Tuesday night. This is a project they worked on over the summer. I am continually amazed by them.

Youth Ambassadors
Engaging youth in community transformation

Youth Ambassadors are a group of young people in South Boston, ages 12-18, who are trying to better their community. They want to have a voice and to be positive agents of change. They are letting their voices and other talents serve as tools for building a better community. They want to show people that they have opinions and want to express them through music and other art forms. They are engaged in art projects, community clean-ups and beautification, community service trips and other work to demonstrate that young people care about and are active members of the community. These are vehicles by which they express their devotion and passion for their community. In partnership with caring adults, they are making a difference.

In addition to all of their local volunteer work, each year twenty Youth Ambassadors travel to the Gulf Coast area to assist with the Hurricane Katrina relief effort at a cost of more than $20,000. If you would like to contribute to the fourth annual Hurricane Katrina Relief community service trip or to our efforts of engaging youth in community transformation please send a check or money order to:

Blog: Hope & Recovery Talks Prevention Internationally.

It’s been an interesting and exciting 2 weeks here at HQ. I’m not talking about the planning for our awesome walk to raise awareness on Sept. 28th.

No, I am talking about the fact that we have had the opportunity to participate in a Community Coalitions Round table with the Director of National Drug Control Policy, Gil Kerlikowske. It was an honor and a privilege to be able to present the great work that has been happening in South Boston. Lt. Governor Murray also was present and both men were keenly interested in the new and innovative approaches community coalitions are doing in prevention work.

Last night we were also present at a small dinner at Hope House here in Boston. A delegation from Iraq which was made up mainly of treatment providers were the guests. They have come to the United States to learn more about our prevention and treatment models. It was an amazing opportunity to speak with these men who do incredible trauma work in an area that has historically been struggling.
